The Berkeley Hunt will again be opening its kennels to visitors on Sunday, July 4. Once every year the hunt gives tours of the kennels enabling the public to meet the hounds, which are part of the oldest foxhound pack in the country.

There will also be plenty of family entertainment, including cream teas, a barbecue and bar, terrier racing, a fun dog show that can be entered on the day, a children's fun fair, face replica watches V painting, skittles and stalls.

Entrance is free from 2pm, with the kennel tours at 2.15pm and 3.15pm.

The kennels are in Ham, near Berkeley, and the hounds are still owned by the Berkeley family, who are based at Berkeley Castle. John Berkeley is the present pack owner The Berkeley can trace its origins back to the 12th century. The fifth Earl of Berkeley could hunt his Porcelain Rings hounds from Berkeley Castle to Charing Cross in London, with kennels at Berkeley, Broadway, Nettlebed, Gerrards Cross and Cranfield.

The season would start at Berkeley and progress via each of his kennels to London and then in stages back to Gloucestershire.

Today, the Berkeley country covers 350sq miles of Gloucestershire from Gloucester to Bristol and from the Severn to Kingscote.
